Most managers know that praising employees when they perform well is important, but many still withhold praise. They seem wedded to the outdated belief that pride can sap motivation among workers and even make them a bit lazy. This take on pride isn’t correct, not even in the least. In fact, pride is one of a select group of emotions that engenders perseverance and success at work. Psychologist David DeSteno cites emerging research that shows pride gives people grit; it doesn’t diminish it.
